Keke Palmeris a performer down to her bones, honey.

And thats how I feel.

But its taken us five, six years.

So its been a long time coming.

You just see our culture, and you see friendship.

Its one of my favorite movies that Ive done.

Not every movie that you do is [one] that youd watch a lot.

Its like, Put that shit on real quick!

You get into it.

I think ofGirls TriporJoy Ride like, why dont we immediately have nine more of these?Yes.

I dont know what that is.

You dont always want to be harping on the horn of Its because were women!

What draws them together as friends?Dreux is a punch in A personality.

She feels like, As long as I do everything right, everything should go right.

She has a soft spot for [Alyssa] because theyre kind of what each other is not.

Alyssa is more free-flowing.

But it feels like all the cards are stacked against her.

Its almost as if theres imperialism in place.

Oh, wait, there is.

They were good, but it didnt necessarily feel like that was the one.

Eventually, they were like, Were gonna have SZA come in.

Id been around her a few times, we didSNLtogether.

And then she gets in there and immediately nails it.

That was our favorite part, being with each other, because it was such a grueling schedule.

Weve been here for 16 hours.

Its time to go!

Were extreme versions of our characters.

So when were around each other, I think we just lean into that.

Was it surprising that it became such a hit online? That was so funny to us.

Because Ive always been a huge fan of hers.

[Her albumCtrl] changed everything.

It was just such a moment in pop-culture history.

Over the course of the years, we would chitchat, [but] always from afar.

And that night, it was so cool that we got to actually be around each other.

Then I met her parents, and then we end up doing a movie.

So its just very interesting how life works.

What was important to you about portraying that feeling of helplessness, especially right now?Everything.

Thats how I feel!

Ive done sang, dance, hosted, acted, did everything under the sun.

Thats how I felt.

Just let me be the director, let me be the producer, let me be the company.

Ive been doing what yall been wanting me to do for the last 22 years.

I think Im capable.

And that was, for me, a moment of reflection.

Your community is a great guiding force.

And when it feels right, it feels right.

Youve said things have changed in your life that make the film feel truer.

What are those realizations? After my son, my intentions over my life became clearer.

It pushed away the debris.

What my son has had the power to do for me is to put things into perspective.

Youve continued not to name her in the press.

Why is that?I thought people was gonna get too caught up in the person.

I also think it would have made it a less relatable situation.

Thats the source of my purpose: to create.

Im working at something that I love.

Doesnt mean its not hard.

Doesnt mean Im not wore out at times.

But I like to be put to work.

For me, thats my joy.

Now, where that comes from, we could dive into all day.

But all I know is it makes me happy, so I keep doing it.
