The fedora was among the highlights of the Prop Stores August auction of film and television memorabilia, which also included items fromHome Alone,Scream,Return of the Jediand more.

The fedora which had a pre-auction estimate of $250,000 to $500,000 came from the collection of the late stunt performer Dean Ferrandini, who doubled for Harrison Ford onTemple of Doom.

This fedora was made specifically for the second installment of the Indiana Jones series and matches film shots, production stills, and behind-the-scenes footage of Ford in the village set on location in Sri Lanka, in the mine cart chase shot at Elstree Studios, and in the river sequence shot in the U.S., Prop Storesaid of the hat.

Ferrandini also wore the fedora during a raft sequence when he stunt-doubled as Indiana Jones, and ultimately came into possession of the item.

Ferrandini died in August 2023, and Fridays auction marked the first time this fedora had come up for sale, 40 years afterTemple of Dooms release.

However, this isnt the firstTemple of Doomfedora to hit the auction block: In 2021, another hat created for that film though not tied to any specific scene or sequence was sold in a Prop Store auction for $300,000.

Prior to Fridays sale The previous record holder for most expensive Indiana Jones fedora bought at auction was aRaiders of the Lost Ark-era hat that sold for $500,000 in 2015.
