There are a handful of wardrobe pieces everyone should own.

A white dress shirt is one of them.

In other words, there are a lot of duds out there and some great ones too.

Note: Im interpreting the term dress shirt somewhat loosely here.

Todd Snyder Poplin Dress Shirt

$198

ThisPoplin dress shirtfrom Todd Snyder is my new favorite.

It is slightly longer, which prevents untucking while you go about your day.

The white is nice and bright, but Gap also offers some other great colors to choose from.

Thisnon-iron shirtfrom the Japanese brand features a smooth, sharp look for just under $40.

Im also a big fan of the button-down point collar, which kicks up the dressiness a bit.

Its also longer for a secure tuck.

Rhone Commuter Shirt

These days, youll see a lot of stretch dress shirts.

Most of the time, these stretchy shirts feel cheaper, but not RhonesCommuter Shirt.

Plus, the stretch is great for fitting on bigger guys.

I suggest following your style here.

If you prefer roomier clothing, go with a straight (or classic) fit shirt.

If you prefer slim, go with that.

Dress shirts also vary in length.

If (like many of us) you often wear button-ups untucked, go with something a little shorter.

Longer options, however, will stay put in your pants, even while sitting or reaching for things.

Feel: The dress shirts I tested fire off the gamut from thick and substantial to lightweight and breezy.

Again, this is a personal choice, although I like having options for different weather.

Some modern dress shirts are also slightly stretchy.

Color: White is far from ubiquitous when it comes to dress shirts.
